Gather Your Materials

Before you begin the mesh replacement process, ensure you have all the necessary tools and materials. You will need:

  • New screen mesh material
  • Screws and spline (if required)
  • Utility knife
  • Spline roller
  • Scissors
  • Screwdriver
  • Measuring tape
  • Flathead screwdriver (for removing old spline)

Remove the Old Screen

Start by taking the screen out of its frame. Follow these steps:

  1. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the screen frame in place.
  2. Carefully detach the screen from the frame. Be cautious not to damage it during removal.

Take Out the Old Screen Mesh

With the screen removed, you can now replace the old mesh. Follow these steps:

  1. Locate the spline that holds the mesh in place. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry it out gently.
  2. Once the spline is removed, the old screen mesh will come loose. Dispose of it properly.

Measure and Cut the New Mesh

Next, measure the frame to cut the new screen mesh accurately:

  1. Use a measuring tape to determine the dimensions of the screen frame.
  2. Add an extra inch to each side for overlap. Cut the new screen mesh accordingly with scissors.

Attach the New Screen Mesh

Now you are ready to attach the new mesh:

  1. Lay the new screen mesh over the frame, ensuring it covers all edges adequately.
  2. Place the spline on top of the new screen mesh, keeping it taut.

Secure the Spline

Once the mesh is positioned:

  1. Use the spline roller to press the spline firmly into the groove of the frame.
  2. Ensure that the screen mesh is tight and free of wrinkles.

Trim Excess Mesh

After securing the spline, you may have some excess mesh:

  1. Use a utility knife to carefully trim away the excess mesh around the frame.
  2. Be careful not to cut too closely to the spline.

Reassemble the Frame

Finally, reattach the screen frame:

  1. Position the screen back in place.
  2. Use the screwdriver to secure it with screws.

Check for Proper Installation

After everything is installed, make a final inspection:

  • Ensure the screen is taut and secure.
  • Check for any gaps where insects might enter.

Congratulations! You have successfully replaced your screen mesh effectively.
