When it comes to picking the best electric bikes for seniors, the list of desirabled features and performance characteristics is no different than from anybody else. It’s usually the weight assigned to the different variables that changes. The seniors we talk to repeatedly stress wanting safety, ease of use, and reliability above all other factors. And Rad’s newest e-bike the Radster Road checks all those boxes with gusto.
Let’s start with safety. Rad not only has UL certification on the Radster Road, but they have gone the extra mile with their Safe Shield technology. It insulates each individual battery cell so there is less chance of thermal runaway. It’s what electric cars do, but we haven’t seen much of in e-bikes. Well, until now. What Rad does many others will follow. Safety isn’t limited to this one feature though. Rad is synonymous with controlled motor output in our minds. That’s more true than ever with the torque sensor the motor now uses giving you more or less power based off the feedback you give it while pushing on the pedals. Then there is the key fob / passcode to deter thieves, include brake and turn lights, etc.
The ride is plenty easy to manage too. Thanks to the motor’s 100Nm of torque, it has plenty of power for even the steepest of inclines, and enough gearing choices wihh the 8-speed cassette to help you control how you take a hill. Or you can twist the throttle and let the bike do the work. The sweep of the handlebars, and front suspension fork add to the easy to ride nature too.
While the Radster Road isn’t a direct successor to the RadCity 5 Plus, it’s clearly following in it’s footsteps. This is essentially a 6th generation commuter bike from a brand that’s been making e-bikes for 17+ years. It’s dialed in, and customer service is generally what you’d expect from a brand that’s been an industry leader for much of the last decade.
There are several good options for seniors out there. But if we’re weighing things skewed towards the big three factors that seem to come up the most, the Radster Road is the best electric bike option for seniors in our minds.
