Be the best among Chinese enterprises! China's steel structure builds Qatar World Cup "golden bowl"
The countdown to the 2022 Qatar World Cup has entered. Although the Chinese team has missed the World Cup, Chinese elements can not only be seen everywhere in the World Cup, but also contributed many highlights. The most eye-catching one is the Lusail Stadium, which is precisely "Made in China" from Shaoxing, China.
The Arabian "golden bowl" shines on the shores of the Persian Gulf.
Qatar has built and renovated 8 top-level stadiums for this World Cup. The steel structures of the main venues, Lusail Stadium and Laiyang Stadium, were constructed by China Steel Structure located in Keqiao District, Shaoxing City. Among them, Lusail Stadium is currently the most advanced World Cup football stadium with the most complex structural system and the highest construction requirements in the world. China Steel Structure overcame many challenges and technical difficulties such as climate and epidemic, perfectly completed the construction tasks, and contributed China's strength to the hosting of international events.
Lusail Stadium, located in Lusail New City, Qatar, looks like an Arabian "golden bowl" and shines on the shores of the Persian Gulf. It can accommodate 92,000 spectators, 1,000 more seats than the Beijing Bird's Nest. This is currently the largest professional sports venue with the largest capacity built overseas by a Chinese company.
Construction of Lusail Stadium started in April 2018, and the main part of the steel structure will be completed in January 2021. The stadium is printed on the new 10-riyal banknote issued by Qatar in 2020, as well as on the special edition commemorative banknote of the World Cup issued on November 9, 2022. It is a dazzling pearl on the "Belt and Road" initiative.
During the World Cup, Lusail Stadium will serve as the main venue of the World Cup. It will host 10 games of the World Cup, including the semi-finals, finals, closing ceremony and other major football events.
How difficult is it to build the world's top event venues?
The construction of the Arabian "Golden Bowl" is extremely difficult. Due to the special shape of the "Golden Bowl" structure, large span, and heavy structural modules, it has brought huge challenges in technology and construction. The characteristics of the construction of Lusail Stadium can be summarized as the difficulty of construction. , high accuracy requirements.
The total steel structure of Lusail Stadium is about 30,000 tons. The steel structure is divided into 48 V-column trusses, 24 compression ring trusses, and 48 curtain wall trusses. After being assembled on the ground, a thousand-ton crawler crane is used to lift it into place. The modular hoisting on site used three large crawler cranes, all of which were the only three thousand-ton crawler cranes in Qatar. The V-column truss needs to be adjusted from the ground level to the designed bowl-shaped posture, which is a very difficult process. In the end, China Steel Structure ensured that every component was accurately positioned through remote control using 5G technology.
Lusail Stadium also has the world's most complex cable-membrane structure system and is the world's largest single cable-membrane roof building. The steel structure weighing more than 20,000 tons is supported on concrete columns only through 24 ball joint bearings. After the installation of the 1,000-meter-long compression ring truss, the size deviation of more than 100 cable clamp holes is required to be controlled within 25mm. For a round pipe with a diameter of 1600mm, the wrong edge of the butt joint must be controlled within 3mm, and even a deviation of 0.1mm will not work.
After the tenacious efforts of the workers, the main part of the steel structure of Lusail Stadium was successfully completed in January 2021. China Steel Structure takes green building as its development concept and has repeatedly made new achievements in famous construction projects around the world. In response to the country's "One Belt, One Road" call, it has successfully created a series of world-class projects, demonstrating China's precision, China's height and China's speed.
